À propos de Dimitri
I am writing to express my avid interest to teach you English or improve your language skills. Here is a little bit of information about myself. I have a double degree in civil engineering and political science, and I am starting my masters studies in smart cities and urban policy. My work experiences include the private, international non-profit, and governmental sectors.
My undergraduate education at the American University of Beirut ranges from courses in construction design, urban transportation, and environmental sustainability to international political economy, peace building, and conflict resolution. I have sought to go beyond required courses to broaden my skill-set in data interpretation and analysis in order to be a strong member of engineering and management teams in my professional career. To this end, I have actively learned software usage for data, transportation, management, and energy analysis, such as Python, Synchro, and ArcGIS. My final year project entailed assessing the usage-efficiency of recycled PET plastic into asphalt roads to develop a sustainable means of transportation. To further enhance my understanding of policy making, I enrolled at École Polytechnique at the Economics for Smart Cities and Climate Policy masters program. Through this degree, I am acquiring the necessary economic quantitative methods to study the trends of new and transforming metropolitan areas and their competitive environments. For my capstone project, I am working on formulating a framework that will assess the level of sustainability for any given city, taken into consideration social, environmental, economic, and governance factors. The purpose is to find or create indicators that are flexible, measurable, and effective to measure all angles of sustainability. In addition to my technical skills, I have undertaken various multi-cultural and volunteering activities on and off campus and worked with students and people from different departments. My participation with the AUB’s rugby team developed my soft and delegation skills by growing my sense of decision making under pressure, communication, cooperation, and teamwork.
My professional experience includes working alongside teams from various backgrounds to design, deliver, and manage essential construction and humanitarian projects in challenging environments, such as Kazakhstan and Syrian refugee camps in Lebanon. Moreover, I have researched, analyzed, and provided policy recommendations for members of the parliament with the objective of improving the status of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Lebanon. My internships required analyzing and researching transversal aspects of operational environments, and providing senior management and decision makers with culturally informed policy recommendations to diverse and complex problem sets.
Both my career and my sense of personal growth are far richer due to the exchanges of knowledge I have had with technical tradespersons; more fulfilling because of the continuous dialogue with the Syrian Refugees and host communities whose access to education I have worked to support; more stimulating in light of the constant give-and-take with international colleagues and senior management; and more informed and measured given the active collaboration with local institutions and authorities.
